Ferguson Rebounds for Top 5 after Misfortune at 311 Clash

Mt. Holly, North Carolina – Chris Ferguson and Starrette Trucking and Specialized Hauling Race team made the short trip to nearby Madison, N.C’s 311 Fast Track for the season opener. The Carolina Clash Racing Series sanctioned the event that paid $4,000 to win and drew a field of 35 cars. Ferguson qualified 4th overall despite having difficulty with the track’s rough surface. 5 time Carolina Clash Champion Ricky Weeks took the pole award with NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver qualifying 2nd, and Defending Carolina Clash Champion Jeff Smith taking 3rd. After qualifying the Team Starrette Trucking crew went to work on adjustments for the main event. Ferguson rolled off the grid 4th when the green flagged railed. After pressuring Jeff Smith for the first few laps, the driver known as “Fergy” completed the pass off of turn 2 on lap 3. Then setting his sights on 5 Time Clash Champion Ricky Weeks, Ferguson began closing the gap between him and 2nd before a lap 8 caution. The Carolina Clash has elected to use the popular “Delaware Double File” restarts during the 2010 Season, which left Ricky Weeks to chose either inside or outside on the restarts. Weeks chose the outside while Ferguson took the inside. The green flag waved on the field as Ferguson flexed his muscle when he overtook 2nd from Weeks. A caution on the same lap erased “Fergys” efforts but allowed him another shot at 2nd. On the restart Ferguson drove deep into turn 3 when his Starrette mount hit a hole and jumped in the air. Ferguson’s contact with the hole in the track was hard enough to knock his car out of gear and slow him to a stop in turn 4. After realizing what the problem was Ferguson tagged the rear of the 21 car field. As the race wore on “Fergy” utilized high and low grooves to pass competitors and bring home a solid 5th place finish. Ferguson admitted “That is our luck so far this year, we’ve been super fast but we just can’t get that monkey off our back.”
